Through February 26 - March 2, students from Eldorado got the privilege to spend their class time with motivational speakers, entrepreneurs, businessmen, radio host, and etc. Everyone needs a wakeup call, similar to this, to remind students they aren’t in school forever, it’s also great for people with great ambitions and great goals. The assembly proved that school isn’t always for everyone, there are always alternatives. Mr. Neal’s companion Sal Napoli started his own small car business, even though he didn’t graduate from school the passion for cars helped him get through all struggles, although he still has struggles near the winter time he knows rationalize his spending and to carefully plan his business deals. There were many different careers we could learn about along with people involved in those careers. The speakers kindly stayed after school to speak with students who were very interested. All in all it was a privilege to have the experience and the tactics they provided for students should be put in to use, many students stayed after to speak to the guests and many walked away with life lessons they will be forever grateful.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us,” this is a excerpt from Marianne Williamson’s poem “Our Deepest Fear”. The poem was shown to students by Tamia Dow, a retired police officer and detective. She worked for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 25 years. She explained to the crowd of students at the Career Fair that in life you have to face your fears head on. Tamia Dow said, “Fear can limit your success and the fear comes from you.” This was one of the last lines by Dow, but it may have had the greatest impact. Part of Dow‘s talk at the Career Fair was explaining how fear can limit our success in many levels. One of the examples she used was being afraid of failing a test. She elaborated that if you’re afraid of failing a test, and decide not to go to school because of it, you are postponing the thing you’re afraid of instead of facing it. A tip she had was to take a piece of paper and on one side write the worst thing that could happen and on the other side write the best thing that could happen. This tip could be used for situations as simple as taking a test to choosing possible career paths. Throughout her talk Tamia Dow gave students an important life lesson. She explained how fear can limit success and even gave students a tip to deal with that fear. Dow herself has found a lot of success with a 25 year career as a police officer, detective and even writing 8 books. With her own experience of constantly facing her fears, Dow is proof that if you don't allow fear to get in the way you can be success in whatever you do. By: Sabrina Martinez
Eldorado High School held a career fair for all students. Students were able to listen and ask questions to different types of speakers. For a whole week the students learned about how to reach their goals and succeed. As well as receiving a reality check and setting reachable goals. The visitors that came to speak ranged from doctors to entrepreneurs. One of the many speakers, that captured the students attention was Dr.Ron Chan. A chiropractic physician and an entrepreneur said, “I didn’t like to work for the man so after being within the medical field, I began my own business.” He created a machine gun range where his clients, employees, and even himself get the chance to ride tanks and blow stuff up. “ I love my job and I’m good at it. You have to get into what you’re best at, and what you know.” Within his speech he also mentioned that cheating your way through life will not work forever. Writing down goals, even small ones will help you in the long run. As well as never getting into partnerships. This is due to the fact that things can happen between business partners, causing trouble. However, if you wish to do so you should hire an attorney to create a contract. Furthermore, Dr. Chans speech allowed the students to see that college isn't a necessity. As well as seeing that hard work will pay off in the end. Having your goals, and actually working for your goals are two different things. He showed the students that without trial and error, you will never learn your mistakes. Without dedication, you will never succeed. In the end, the students were able to learn a little more about how to succeed and what to work hard on. Doing what you want to do, as well as doing what you are best at, is the best way to succeed. As long as you keep trying and never give up, you’ll be able to succeed. By: Jessica Fajardo
12+ hour shifts, hectic and overwhelming work environment, and unfortunate situations. These are all things nurses have to deal with on a daily basis, amongst other things. These are all things Carmelle Regis, a registered nurse, has dealt with. Ms. Regis was able to share her experiences as a nurse with a group of students Business Marketing class career fair organized by robotics teacher, Mr. Neal. As Carmelle shared her personal journey as a registered nurse with the students, the love, adoration, and passion she has for her career was evident. In order to pursue her career, she attended Roseman University of Health Sciences in Henderson, Nevada from 2012-2014. Here, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing. After earning her degree, she was able to apply to Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center in 2015, where she still currently works as a registered nurse in Oncology/IMC Dept. Although this is her specialty, she is experienced in all areas of nursing as she has worked as a charge nurse, a supervisor, a pediatrician, and in patient care. Throughout her nursing career, she has acquired many skills such as compassion, communication, ethics, critical thinking, attention to detail, adaptability, and stamina. One piece of advice that Carmelle gave students interested in going into the medical field is to expect the worst because you have to be prepared for the unexpected and unfortunate events that may occur. Despite the hecticness from the fast-paced work environment, when Ms. Regis spoke of her career, she only spoke with adoration. She stated, “I love my career. I love meeting patients, hearing about them, and helping them.” Carmelle emphasized the importance of pursuing a career in something you love and are passionate about. After her presentation, it’s clear to see that she is the perfect example of someone who did just that. By: Alexandra Martinez
“You have to face the fear and overcome it.” This inspirational quote comes from a retired police detective. Her name is Tamia Dow, and she now teaches, shares, and writes about all of her experiences. She came to Eldorado High School for the Marketing Class Career Fair on March 2nd to talk about what the students can do with their futures. She talked about her life as a child, her life while trying to get into the academy, and the fears she faced while doing so. She passed an important life lesson with her presentation. Tamia suggested to work in a field that you're passionate about. As a child, she would frequently do police-like things. One story she told took place at a store with her mom. She told how her mom had lost her, and that she was scared. Her mom called the police to help look for her daughter, but after a search with no good results, the police took her home. When her mom arrived to her house, Tamia was waiting on the porch for her mom. She said instead of her mom questioning where she had gone, she was questioning her mom. A major point she made throughout her presentation was the effect of fear. Tamia showed a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, in which she says, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This is extremely true. Those who also believe in their ability to achieve their dreams, will usually prosper. Tamia also said, “Fear can limit your success, and fear comes from you. You have to face your fear, and only then would you be able to follow your dreams. Not only was she inspirational, but she also passed an important life lesson. The only way to succeed, is to take action. No one ever accomplished anything without putting in some work and effort. Overall, the Marketing Class Career Fair was very successful. The students all learned at least one thing to improve their futures, whether it was to work in your field of passion, to confront your fear about any job you want, or to take action to get where you want to be. All of these tools and ideas can enhance the lives of everyone that learns them. By: Jorge Paz
Mr. Neal recently held a career fair with people from different professions. Each of the speakers talked about their lives, personal and career-wise. They also about how your choices can affect the future and how important it is to get a high school diploma. One of these speakers was Tamia Dow, a retired detective. She spoke about how important education was to her and how it helped her get further in her career. One of the topics she covered was about fears and how they could be advantageous for success in any career. Before she had started telling her story about her time in law enforcement, she brought up the topic of fear and quotes. One of the quotes was by Marrianne Williamson, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Tamia told us that we focus too much on fear when we should be focusing more on the future and that we were born to manifest the glory that was given to us. Tamia advised how to help reach any goal, regardless if they mattered to the career you wish to pursue. The first step was to envision the goal; what do you want to do? The next step was to plan. How you would want to accomplish the goal; what do you need to do to get there? The last step would be to take action because action is necessary for your goal to be accomplishable. Without any action your goal just becomes a dream. Make sure people know what you stand for because only you can decide who you are. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” - Eleanor Roosevelt. |
