Some time during the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival, a gunman started shooting at the crowd from a balcony from the Mandalay Bay casino. As bodies started to drop, mass panic quickly spread into the concertgoers’ hearts. The scene was filled with people running for cover, shouting, crying, and trying to protect loved ones. The gunman, which was later identified to be Stephen Paddock, killed 59 people and injured more than 500 others. During the shooting, a few people put themselves in danger to save others. One of those heros is Jonathan Smith, a 30 year old father, saved approximately 30 people. Although, no good deed goes unpunished, Smith got shot in the neck. Luckily, he survived the gun wound and other injuries he sustained. There were also heroes after the mass shooting. Crowds of donors gathered at various medical centers to donate their blood. The lines to these centers were so long that they stretched across multiple blocks. Also, a GoFundMe page for Las Vegas so far has raised $4 million dollars for the victims. The community came together in the aftermath of this disaster. This news has spread far across social medias and news, which pulled at the heartstrings of many. He heartbrokenly took to Twitter and tweeted, “Thank you all the everyday heroes donating blood, provisions, prayers, support, & smiles here in Vegas. We love you so much #VegasStrong.” other celebrities like: Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres, and many others posted on social media, or spoke out in response to the shooting. It’s sad to me because that man did something horrible to all those innocent people.” She continued, “I wasn't there during the incident but my mother's friends were there. They made it out safe and sound but sadly they witnesses most of it.” Luckily, everyone was safe and the situation was handled. Mariana also stated that “All hotels should start checking their guests bags, to prevent something like this. The security should be [improved], and that's one way to start.” This catastrophe was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. Although it'll take time to recover, the community of Las Vegas will come together and grow stronger. Those affected are getting the help and care they need. The 59 fallen victims of the shooting are being memorialized, and will be remembered by loved ones.
