Posted: February 7, 2018 On January 31, 2018, the rare Super Blue Blood Moon occurred. This astonishing phenomenon has not happened in over 150 years. During this event, the Moon appeared slightly larger and brighter than usual. The moon even appeared to have a copper red shade to it. Although a blood moon sounds strange, it’s not extremely rare. The red moon will shine again on January 21, 2019. What’s interesting about that night’s moon is that it was three celestial event rolled into one. It was a supermoon, the blue moon, and the blood moon. A supermoon is when the moon gets much more closer than usual to earth. This makes the moon look up to 14% larger, and it also looks 30% brighter. It was also the 2nd full moon of January, making it a blue moon. But what causes it to be appear red? Well, it’s all in the science. During a total lunar eclipse, the moon moves into the earth’s shadow, giving it that red shade. Jorgina Medrano, 12, heard about this event over social media. “I almost didn’t know about the event but it seemed pretty cool.” She continued, “At first, I didn't believe that the moon would look red or anything. I honestly didn’t think that it’d be noticeable.” On the contrary, Jorgina thought that the moon looked quite beautiful. “It looked bigger and brighter than usual. Although, it does suck that the next one won’t happen again for awhile.” Once again the beautiful phenomenon captured the attention of millions. It shined brightly and red for the people. The moon experienced three celestial events which captured the attention of scientists. This was a big event that happened, which occured 150 years after the last super blue, blood moon.

Dear Sparky,
I feel like I had my school life planned out in the beginning of the year, but as time is passing, i feel like it's harder for everything to run smoothly. Do you have any advice on how i could run my school life better? From, Clueless-what-to-do. Dear Clueless-what-to-do, I have begun to notice that I am having trouble myself. Sometimes, something you plan to do happens that is not planned, making your schedule crazy. With that, you would have missed on an opportunity that happened the same time something else amazing happened. For example, I had trouble keeping up my identity to the whole school. I have a lot of friends and teachers that had helped me but some still tried to pull off my head or tail just to keep it. Everyone loved taking pictures with me but I couldn’t really speak because my voice is well known. My sworn secret to keep quiet while around the school would also be broken. I love typing and answering your questions because it lets me speak without speaking. On occasion I have to hesitate so I do not speak. The hard part is sharing my sparky pride with others because I am stuck not speaking. My love for the school and everyone else will stay because I don’t really want to leave this school. I am sure there are more things you could do later in the future, it’s still a new year. There could be things repeated such as games or family get together. We can do similar things that we have done in the past that we can do once more to keep ourselves entertained. You may have missed on opportunities but you can still do them later. Thank you for your question. I had a fun time thinking and replying to them. Much love from your devil, Sparky! |
