Posted: December 15, 2017 Computers are starting to become a huge part of our Eldorado community. With the growth of computers being used, people like Alan Guerrero-Herrera are starting to build their own. Alan has been helping Mr. Rendon build a computer for his class, “Mr. Rendon wants to use it for the professional version Unity so students will have a powerful computer to upoffload their projects.”Alan said. Alan can be found in room 812 on Fridays after school, working on the computer. Alan describes the process as fun., hHe said, “It’s always a learning experience since I usually make a mistake or two every time, but the more I keep doing it just gets more and more comfortable.” Currently no one is helping him, but there was a student who had helped him last year. Alan does more of the heavy work., Mr. Rendon instructs and guides Alan. Alan does hope to find more people though, saying, “We’re going to try to find more people but for right now I'm doing mostly everything.” Alan and Mr. Rendon are using two top of the line graphics cards a 16 core processor and 64 gigabytes of ram which come from school funding. Alan compares building the computer to legos saying, “The simplest way Ii can describe it is very technical legos. I don't have to solder anything, I don’t weld anything, it's just putting everything together, making sure it works, Kknowing where each wire goes and what it's supposed to do.” Another way he described it was a puzzle with a learning curve and knowing which parts are compatible to each other and making sure the computer will even turn on. Alan added that he loves building computers and technology in general. Dear Sparky,
What do you eat for breakfast? Sincerely, Dying from hunger Dear Dying from hunger, I understand your hunger! It's important to eat in the morning. Of course there is a chart for your daily morning breakfast; grains, protein, fruit, and dairy. I preferably like to eat toast for breakfast during the weekdays. It is full of grain and carbs. I also drink milk and munch on an apple afterwards to balance out my meal. On the weekends, I still need some energy so I have bacon, waffles, banana, strawberries and water. Of course I could get tired of my selection of food so I normally change it up now and then. I hope this was a good answer and help you with your hunger. Hoping to make your mornings better, Sparky By: Sabrina Martinez & Alexandra Martinez
Posted: November 9, 2017 When we think of drugs, we think about all the bad, life-altering ones. Most of the time, we don't think about the drugs that are there to help us. Yet, those drugs can also be used in a way that can ruin your life. Opioids fall into this category. They are used in the medical field to help with pain, but if the user gets addicted, their life can fall to pieces. Opioids are like pain-relievers that come in the form of tablets, capsules, and liquids. They work by attaching to the receptors on nerve cells, and block pain signals. However, if the drug is abused or taken for long-term, the user can become addicted and physically dependent on the drug. As a result, it would be significantly harder to quit the drug, especially because the addict will suffer withdrawal symptoms. These include; night sweats, nausea, vomiting, pain in the muscles, depression, agitation, paranoia, and delirium. There is also a chance to overdose on opioids. Luckily, there is an antidote that reverses the effects of opioid overdosed called Naloxone. Taking these drugs can have a major negative impact on your life. Martin Hernandez ,12, has not used opioids before, but knows their purpose. “I know that opioids can help relieve pain but I do not use it. Although the topic is interesting to me because they have an antidote to the drug. I think they should only prescribe [them] to patients that hold any severe conditions. That way it can decrease the overdose count and possibly help those that are already addicted.” Overall, Opioids are used to relieve pain they can cause addiction, if abused. The drug comes to prove that, good or bad, addiction can come about. Most, if not all, of the users are informed of the drug and its purpose. If the user were to overdose, an antidote called Naloxone can reverse it’s effects. Although, if the users are informed of the dangers of the drug, the abuse of opioids can be diminished. |
