Gino Bravatti, proclaimed by many as the smartest student in the freshmen class, is working hard and excelling in all of his subjects. Ms. Frederick recommended Bravatti for a student spotlight and it’s not hard to see why. He has taken it upon himself to draw out his storyboards in his graphic design class instead of using programming software. This is one example of how he goes above and beyond to take agency in his education. He is looking forward to the project and the challenge it possesses. Gino likes to excel above and beyond the average curriculum, often times being a unit ahead of his class. “I don’t enjoy doing the work ahead, I just prefer to be ahead,” he said. When he isn’t doing school work, he spends most of his time sleeping, which he refers to as his favorite pastime. Bravatti doesn't do very much on his free time besides playing video games and listening music. Picking his favorite games was difficult, but where there’s a challenge, he’ll be there. He prefers the virtual gaming world as opposed to the traditional physical activity. “Anyone can pick up a controller, but not everybody has the build to be an athlete,” he said when discussing his expertise in the gaming world. He also spends time listening to a lot of independent artists. He likes to listen to all different types of genres and enjoys music by the Gorillaz and a lot of Soundcloud artists. Ginofeels like he can relate to them the most because they aren’t living on stardom and do it in their free time, not because they have to. He enjoys animal facts and he shared quite a few of his favorites. He volunteers at the soup kitchen the first of every month. Our favorite quote from Gino was about birds. “Ravens have ears. They’re just holes under their feathers.” Sometimes there’s something cool just under the surface.

Winter storm Stella took the news by storm! The storm was rated as a powerful category 3, with its wind speed that was approximately 50 miles per hour. The intensity of Stella caused some Northeastern states to issue a blizzard warning. It traveled all around the Northeastern side of the United States on March 13th. About 42 inches of snow were dropped in West Winfield, Virginia. While some areas of New York reportedly received up to two feet of snow.
It was a pretty big story, even students on the west coast heard of the winter storm. Victoria Castrejon, 11, is an informed student who learned about it on the news. She heard that it caused quite some damage to the Northeastern side of the United States. Victoria said, “I think that lately a lot of disasters have been occurring. It's like a domino effect and it'll continue.” She continued to say, “I think families, houses, and resources will be affected… [and] that if one area of the U.S has a [setback], the whole country will be affected.” Disasters can destroy families, resources, and property. Because of the large amount of snow, cars slid and crashed, and repair shops saw a big wave of customers. Any damage caused has been repair or is being worked on. The Northeastern side is nearly back to normal. Every day, someone is diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer, but the Purple Stride wishes to help by raising funds towards research through a marathon. This month Eldorado’s high school choir once again was happy to participate in their annual choir festival. They started off March with having pre-festival which was here at our beloved school on the 3rd. Next they had festival which fell on March 27th. They perform the same songs at festival as they did pre-festival with the exception of one different song at pre-festival.
This years pre-festival songs: Music lead- the way Tching Tching ryah Koowu This years festival songs: Music lead - the way Koowu Gloria - Hallelujah Our choir is preparing during their class periods as well as dedicating their after school hours on Tuesday to practice more for the festival. Periods 3rd and 4th will be attending the choir festival and have already attended pre-festival. They do this because it's a form of bonding with their classmates and teacher too. Along with bonding it allows them to let out their feelings along with improving their singing skills at the same time.“Each song has a different meaning” says a choir student from 3rd period. The level of dedication that goes into each one of their practices and class periods builds their bond within each other as well as makes them more sure of themselves when singing the songs that will soon be performed. A superior 1 is the rating that this choir attending the choir festival is aiming for . All of our choir students will surely shine on the day of the festival and will receive that superior 1 they have been singing so hard and dedicatedly for, as the power that they have through their voices will surely blow the judges away! If you love dinosaurs you won't have to dig deep down to see the treasures of the prehistoric age this spring 2017. Extinct from Earth for millions of years, 15 species of prehistoric dinosaurs are making their way to Stone Mountain Park. There is a grand opening of “Dinosaur Explore” on March 30th.

A love of dinos runs in the family. Nathalie, 11, Naviya’s sister is also interested in prehistoric times. “I find it interesting to know other things were living with us and they were so big!” Her sister, Nathalie Sanabria stated. The two siblings have been interested in dinosaurs since they were younger. Naviya Sanabria also said, “I liked dinosaurs since I was five, and they interested me because of the Land Before Time. My sister and I never had dolls to play with, we had toy dinosaurs we loved to play with.” The new exhibit is located in Atlanta, Georgia and will be running throughout the entire 2017 season. The prehistoric creature collection features more than 20 life-size dinosaurs with special effects allowing them to move and roar just like the actual ones from long ago. It'll be a great trip for you and your family this spring break to explore the prehistoric age. By: Allyson Swapp When you were younger you could have seen the world in a different light. For the “Creators” and artists the world was like a cartoon at a young age. You watch something on a cartoon then it sticks with you for the rest of your life. You are taught as a young child what things are around you, that brown cube is a box. Hollow when nothing is inside of it, a secret is hidden within its depths and all you have to do is open it. “How is the world different to you?” that’s a question I hear sometimes when I am drawing, everything seems more cartoony or different.
The thing in your mind that creates those images and stories is what most call “Imagination”. The world around us is like a canvas. We can see the world differently. You can draw something with a dark contrast to the real thing or just have something that doesn’t make sense at all. You can draw something abstract like shapes that create a masterpiece while sticking to a simple pattern. You can even use your phone with yourself as the target, putting filter after filter to make you or your target look better in a way. Your phone might point out things like the lighting that you someone didn’t truly see there in the first place, showing something that you wish to fix. Nature can be seen as a canvas that your mind fills in with certain colors or contrast of images. You can see that world as described or told that it is or just see colors and shapes surrounding you. Somehow we all see the world differently even if we don’t notice it. I can notice that there is a rock right in front of you or that there is a dip in the road just by looking but you might see something different like there is a crack off to the side or that your phone has a notification. Somehow our brains process everything differently for each other, sometimes an artist can be a writer. A writer would rather see something in a different light like when you are passing a jeep on it’s way to someplace, you would like to question as to where or why. Is it going to the store or to the hospital to visit someone that has been in there for a week? Somehow everything has a story even if it's just a rock and the writers love to write it. Write about an amazing story of bravery or defeat as it fought to live another day. There are many different kinds of creative minds in the world and sometimes we question their mentality, or like others, we just like to stick around. In the end we all wish to try and make our mark on the world. By: Garrison Gavin, Posted: April 7, 2017 After the historic baseball World Series, players get a few months off then it's back to training for the next season. During this time, teams from the west coast travel to Arizona and teams from the east coast travel to Florida.
Teams endure training at their MLB camps. In no time they begin to play games. The two leagues are the Cactus league in AZ, and the Grapefruit league in FL. Fans are able to go to these MLB facilities and watch the players train, then later play a game in a stadium environment. This time of year gives teams the ability to try new talent that has been drafted or signed to that specific team. For example, while the major league teams are playing, players from the minors and rookie ball get called up to showcase their skills against the best players in the world. If these rookies can handle themselves, then they are often given a spot in the big leagues or are sent back down to the minor leagues so they can develop more as a player. When major league teams play during spring training the games are played in a stadium and fans are able to come watch and just like a regular season game. More than often, fans are able to interact with their favorite players as well as get autographs and items from the players. This is the best time to ask questions and get an insight for the upcoming season. Ticket prices are reduced so fans can enjoy the games. People often travel to Arizona or Florida to watch these games for the weekend. Major league players can also be seen training on off days or before a game. Fans are usually walking around the entire facility watching hitter, pitchers, and all players doing their individual and group practice. Spring training is a great way for die hard baseball fans to watch their favorite teams compete in these pre-season games. By: Zoie Clements, Posted: April 7, 2017 Towards the end of each school year comes a saving grace, with limited time off from January to April it couldn’t come soon enough. Spring break! A very common way to enjoy these numbered days is by embarking on a road trip.
Anywhere the wind takes you, ( before you need more gas of course), is game. Living in Las Vegas, you don’t have to travel far to reach some desireable locations. Arizona, for instance, is full of many great places to relax and have fun; some of these include Monument Valley, Hoover Dam, and none other than the Grand Canyon. Utah is also home to many fun places; The Great Salt Lake and Zion National Park to name a few. If neither of these are to your taste, try California. Some of the most beautiful and picturesque beaches await and of course who could forget, Disneyland! Haley Hamill, 11, said “If I could go on a road trip I’d like to go to Montana. It’s really pretty and my grandparents live there.” Orlando Meji, 12, said “This spring break I’m going to Los Angeles. I want to go just to get out of Vegas and to try to food there.” However, even the most fun of road trips can become mundane and leave everyone feeling horrible when you’re hungry. So, in order to prevent this tragedy, don’t forget the snacks! Picking the right snacks can make all the difference in your travels. Never take anything you need to keep cold for long periods or food that is easily perishable. Instead, why not something sweet like candy or Oreos, or maybe savory like crackers or chips? Of course it goes without saying, many people love road trips simply because they enjoy traveling no matter where it may be. Half the fun is getting there. |
