12+ hour shifts, hectic and overwhelming work environment, and unfortunate situations. These are all things nurses have to deal with on a daily basis, amongst other things. These are all things Carmelle Regis, a registered nurse, has dealt with. Ms. Regis was able to share her experiences as a nurse with a group of students Business Marketing class career fair organized by robotics teacher, Mr. Neal. As Carmelle shared her personal journey as a registered nurse with the students, the love, adoration, and passion she has for her career was evident. In order to pursue her career, she attended Roseman University of Health Sciences in Henderson, Nevada from 2012-2014. Here, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing. After earning her degree, she was able to apply to Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center in 2015, where she still currently works as a registered nurse in Oncology/IMC Dept. Although this is her specialty, she is experienced in all areas of nursing as she has worked as a charge nurse, a supervisor, a pediatrician, and in patient care. Throughout her nursing career, she has acquired many skills such as compassion, communication, ethics, critical thinking, attention to detail, adaptability, and stamina. One piece of advice that Carmelle gave students interested in going into the medical field is to expect the worst because you have to be prepared for the unexpected and unfortunate events that may occur. Despite the hecticness from the fast-paced work environment, when Ms. Regis spoke of her career, she only spoke with adoration. She stated, “I love my career. I love meeting patients, hearing about them, and helping them.” Carmelle emphasized the importance of pursuing a career in something you love and are passionate about. After her presentation, it’s clear to see that she is the perfect example of someone who did just that.
