By: Allyson Swapp When you were younger you could have seen the world in a different light. For the “Creators” and artists the world was like a cartoon at a young age. You watch something on a cartoon then it sticks with you for the rest of your life. You are taught as a young child what things are around you, that brown cube is a box. Hollow when nothing is inside of it, a secret is hidden within its depths and all you have to do is open it. “How is the world different to you?” that’s a question I hear sometimes when I am drawing, everything seems more cartoony or different.
The thing in your mind that creates those images and stories is what most call “Imagination”. The world around us is like a canvas. We can see the world differently. You can draw something with a dark contrast to the real thing or just have something that doesn’t make sense at all. You can draw something abstract like shapes that create a masterpiece while sticking to a simple pattern. You can even use your phone with yourself as the target, putting filter after filter to make you or your target look better in a way. Your phone might point out things like the lighting that you someone didn’t truly see there in the first place, showing something that you wish to fix. Nature can be seen as a canvas that your mind fills in with certain colors or contrast of images. You can see that world as described or told that it is or just see colors and shapes surrounding you. Somehow we all see the world differently even if we don’t notice it. I can notice that there is a rock right in front of you or that there is a dip in the road just by looking but you might see something different like there is a crack off to the side or that your phone has a notification. Somehow our brains process everything differently for each other, sometimes an artist can be a writer. A writer would rather see something in a different light like when you are passing a jeep on it’s way to someplace, you would like to question as to where or why. Is it going to the store or to the hospital to visit someone that has been in there for a week? Somehow everything has a story even if it's just a rock and the writers love to write it. Write about an amazing story of bravery or defeat as it fought to live another day. There are many different kinds of creative minds in the world and sometimes we question their mentality, or like others, we just like to stick around. In the end we all wish to try and make our mark on the world.
